The focus of Physical Therapy exercise is to make sure functional movement and strength can be achieved. Emphasis may be placed on body mechanics, posture, co-ordination with movement or range of motion. Each exercise program is established for the individual and should also include a home exercise program.
Treatment may also include modalities. Modalities may consist of the application of heat or ice, or the use of equipment. Equipment varies from Ultrasound, E-stim, Iontophoresis, laser or portable electrical units. The purpose of modalities ranges from decreasing inflammation to increasing circulation, eliminating scarring and controlling pain.
Manual treatment is a hands on approach. This would include soft tissue mobilization, myofascial treatment, muscle energy, joint mobilization, passive range of motion and muscle relaxation techniques. Each course of treatment may vary and may include a combination of the above techniques.
